Hungary’s tourism still has lots of potential – New Ritz-Carlton in Budapest will be a landmark

Budapest/Hungary, 19th May 2016 – Hungary still has lots of potential in tourism, in the larger cities as well as in traditional holiday areas such as Lake Balaton. During the past five years the spending of visitors increased by more than five billion euros. Although new hotel rooms can be placed on the market very well, the investments are currently restrained. Only six hotels are in the pipeline in Hungary right now, as TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the specialized service provider in the exchange of cutting-edge information between clients and contractors in the international hotel industry, announced.

Landmark in Hungary: recently opened Ritz-Carlton Budapest

One of the projects will be a new budget brand hotel Meininger in Budapest with 184 rooms; opening is scheduled for spring 2018. At the airport of Budapest a new airport hotel (200 rooms, opening: early 2017) will arise and Carlson Rezidor is investing in a new Park Inn Hotel in Zalakaros in the South of Balaton (236 rooms, opening in spring 2018).

But the potential for new hotels is significantly higher. Analysts at Horwath HTL estimated that Budapest itself will be in the need of more than 1,000 new rooms until 2019. Other forecasts are even higher. The hotel stock in the capital will grow by five to ten percent, they say.

A new hotel landmark is the recently opened Ritz Carlton in Budapest: This luxury hotel with 170 comfortable rooms and 30 elegant suites is located in a historic building in a prime, central location.
